Reuven Bar-On was a researcher who noticed, among other things, that people with a high IQ sometimes failed to achieve, while others with a much lower IQ were often more successful.<\/p>\n
Successful <\/em>in the sense of: in general, more happy; having better social connections at the appropriate level;\u00a0 successful at work and having more personal ambition. He concluded that this was mainly due to the way people deal with their intelligence, their environment and how they use their emotional intelligence (EQ) and social skills.<\/p>\n He described Emotional Intelligence (EQ) as a separate skill and in 1997 he developed a test which he patented and marketed. This was officially called BarOn Emotional Quotient inventory. In fact,\u00a0 EQ-i is more an inventory than a test. BarOn EQ-i measures personality traits.<\/p>\n All EQ elements can be coached and changed, while the IQ is fairly fixed.
